Mithilesh lives along with her family in Saketri village of Panchkula district in Haryana. She has 4 children, all of who are studying in school. Her husband used to work as a construction labourer but one day while working he got a huge electric shock. He was admitted in PGI, Chandigarh for 15 days, after which he recovered a lot. It has been 2 years now and he rears few goats for their household consumption of milk. Sometimes if the milk is surplus, they sell it and earn some money. After the unfortunate incident, Mithilesh started working as a domestic help. This family of 6 members survives in a monthly income of less than Rs. 5000. In the current lockdown situation, this income has also stopped. There are no major savings to fall back on. She said that though there was an announcement made in a nearby Gurudwara that ration will be distributed to all the suffering families, nothing of this sort has happened yet. She says,” Government has announced this lockdown to safeguard all of us, I have no complaints regarding that. But my work has stopped and I don’t know if I will be given money for the days I couldn’t work”.
